Small Gestures II - Auckland Edition

Small Gestures is a collection of prints from 2019. It explores iconography and printmaking technique to see how they play together. The title of the exhibition comes from the gestural marks, the size of the works and the simple (yet meaningful) subjects within the prints.

These works have been created over the last several months at her home studio and at The Old School Te Kura Tawhito in New Brighton.

Pat Kraus shares images from his current project "Roast World", which investigates the psychological impact of climate catastrophe.

What does it mean to live with the knowledge of impending ecological collapse — a post-apocalyptic horror movie becoming real before our eyes? How do we face this unprecedented problem with honesty, accepting our responsibilities to future generations, yet not lapse into a nihilism that will prevent us from taking effective action?

I have been plagued with climate pessimism and depression over a number of years. With this project I am seeking, through photographic means, to represent this psychological pain. My hope is that by providing a space to discuss our private suffering, we may share the burden, and move forward in solidarity.
