Pavarotti Directed by Ron Howard.

Stars include: Spike Lee, Luciano Pavarotti, Princess Diana, Stevie Wonder.

The non-fiction film, covers Pavarotti’s adolescence to his rise to global fame with his powerful and singular vocals. Pavarotti spent his childhood in Italy taking singing lessons and learning from his father, who was also a tenor.

His career began with several small shows in Italian opera houses.
Pavarotti made opera cool in the latter part of the 20th century. With his larger-than-life personality and crystal-clear voice, he became a worldwide sensation.

Howard presents Pavarotti's life as opera. A man of great passion - for opera, for women, for food, for children - Pavarotti lived large. Howard manages to make the audience feel the highs and the lows of Pavarotti's personal and professional lives. It covers the fantastic success of his middle years and the explosive teaming with Domingo and Carreras as The Three Tenors.

The singer dedicated a large portion of his life to a series of benefit concerts titled ‘Pavarotti & Friends’, giving proceeds to humanitarian causes like the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, for which he raised more money than any other individual. Legendary musicians and celebrities from all over the world joined him, like Princess Diana, Elton John and Mariah Carey.
During his international farewell tour in 2006, Pavarotti was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died at his home in Modesta, Italy, in September 2007.

Rwenzori Special Needs Foundation is inviting those who want to honour Pavarotti, who had a heart for and love of people in their hours of extreme poverty and famine, especially young people, by showing the film as a fundraiser for children in Uganda with special needs. This Trust was set up by Dot Muir of Invercargill to enable children there to have operations to correct such health issues as hydrocephalus, muscular dystrophy, glaucoma, epilepsy, cleft palates, spina bifida, foot and leg deformities, sight and hearing needs.
