A divine meditation experience with accomplished musicians and classical instruments from India. Performance, Meditation, Kirtan, Mantra, Chanting and Chai.

This beautiful event will be in 2 parts:
The first half will be “Music for Meditation“ a 45-minute set based on Indian classical raga, presented and performed by:
- Shukdev Madhur: Violin
- Sargam Madhur: Sitar
- Arohi: Violin
- Deepak Madhur: Harmonium
- Basant Madhur & Akhil: Tabla

Followed by a short intermission break with complimentary delicious chai tea served.

The Second Half will include:
Chanting (devotional Kirtan, Music & Mantra) with Shukdev Madhur and local guest performers; Sarah Spence (Premratna), Emily Macklow (EmRiver) and Rayna Love (Teg Ravi Sing) - and others.

There is opportunity for audience participation to sing and chant, with clapping and movement as we enjoy a meditative chanting experience together, with group consciousness and unity.

This is a unique opportunity to experience intimate and powerful live music, mantra and chanting with world class musicians, playing ageless classic Indian instruments and chants, at a divine and cosy venue, bringing warmth to our hearts and souls in the middle of the winter :)

About Shuk Dev Madhur:
Shuk Dev Madhur is known to New Zealanders as a proficient violinist and his passion for the art has made him a quality teacher encouraging a growing number of youngsters to learn violin under his able guidance.

Mr Madhur is a recipient of several Awards, among the foremost of which is the National Award received from former Indian President Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1993 for his contributions to music.

He is largely responsible for bringing Indian classical music to NZ, giving it the global audience it enjoys today. Violin concerts of Professor Madhur have been featured in innumerable music festivals & conferences all over New Zealand, Australia & USA.

Professor Madhur has associations with many outstanding musicians from all over the world including top musician like Flutist Pt Ronu Majumdar, Tabla Maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi & Pt Pawan K Verma, Vocalist Pt Shyam Das Mishra, to name just a few.

Some of his unique performances also include music concerts at Asia 2000 Foundation of New Zealand, Prana Music, Dance & Arts Festival, Waitakere Indian Association, Pakistan Association of New Zealand, Bharatiya Samaj’s Fund raiser in New Zealand, Auckland Council Community events.

Professor Shuk Dev Madhur, A true cultural ambassador of India, continues to preserve and spread the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical music, in all its glory.

About Basant Madhur:
Basant Madhur is a widely acknowledged tabla player and a much-respected artiste in the arena of Indian Classical Music. On account of his versatility and pleasing disposition, he is the most sought & creative artist in the realm of Indian classical music in New Zealand and Australasia as a whole.

Madhur moved to New Zealand in 2002 and established the “Sargam School of Indian Music.” By 2006, he had trained more than 300 students, some of which at a very high level. In 2008 he received the Award of Appreciation for his contribution to the field of music by GOPIO (Global organization of People of Indian Origin New Zealand).

Basant has had the honor of accompanying some of the stalwarts of Indian Classical Music such as Grammy Award winner Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in New Zealand and USA, Pt. Ronu Majumdar in New Zealand & Australia, Pt. Rakesh Chaurasia, saxophone genius Dr. Kadri Gopalnath and mridangam player Patri Satish Kumar to name a few. He has also collaborated with several western musicians such as John Ellis, Luke Hurley, Murray McNabb, Frank Gibson Jr., Jon Sanders and Prosad Freeman in fusion music.
