Our Shearing Competition has been held on the first Saturday in February since 1963, i.e 56 years and counting. We bring a stage into the Memorial Hall in Marton with 6 stands and spectators get to watch local talent and world famous competitors shear more than 1300 sheep over the course of a day.

We have as many as 120 shearers and 35 woolhandlers showcasing the energy, skill and talent of sheep shearing in five grades - novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open. We are a qualifying round for the world championships and also host the PGG Wrightson Lamb Shear event.

Our total prize money is up on previous years, to $10,000. We are a non-profit community event, for young and old, bringing the town and country together to enjoy each other's company and a great shearing spectacle.
