This workshop is based in the beautiful Brandenburg Coppice, a unique woodland on the Lincoln University campus, and is taught by Douglas Horrell of Cleft Craft.

You'll learn to split, chop, slice and hew. This workshop will teach you how to shape wood with an axe - from splitting a log to finished projects.

An option for people who have done our beginner spoon class, this class builds on your carving skills with one of the most versatile tools. In this class you’ll learn techniques to make various objects with an axe, including spoon-blanks for carving.

N.B. This class acts as a foundation for spoon-carving for beginners, as it allows you to confidently pre-shape wood for carving. It also runs earlier in the month prior to Spoon Club so students can use this session to produce their carving blanks in advance.

All tools & materials provided.

Please note: This workshop is only suited to those who can work safely without direct supervision with very sharp hand tools.
