Celebrating the cool and the chaos, with a film screening, a talk, and an open mic.

To send the Dare to be Wise exhibition off in style, we are celebrating with something common to all University of Otago students: scarfie life.

To begin the evening, two fun and funny scarfie experts, Sarah Gallagher, the author of Scarfie Flats of Dunedin and Scarfies film co-writer and director Rob Sarkies will chat about the film and our city's scarfie culture.

Next we’ll screen the iconic local film in our Barclay Theatre, with complimentary popcorn served. Scarfies is the story of five kiwi flatmates who, much to their delight, find something illicit growing in their basement, but when the rightful owner comes knocking and finds that they have appropriated the goods, things start to go awry.

The film will be followed by an open mic session where you can ask questions about the movie or the book, and share your experiences of being a scarfie in Dunedin.

Bring your old flatties and relive your scarfie days, reminiscing with your own stories of misadventure, comic calamity, and Castle Street.

Dare to be Wise, the University of Otago’s 150th anniversary exhibition, showcasing articles, artefacts, stories, and memorabilia from the first 150 years of university life, will be open 6pm–7pm, before the event begins.

7pm–9.30pm, Friday 22 November
Barclay Theatre $10 per person, limited numbers, bookings essential.
