Hong Kong actor-writer-director wunderkind Stephen Chow is best known in the West for his lavish comic fantasies Shaolin Soccer (2001) and Kung-Fu Hustle (2004) but this, his first “family” film, is no less remarkable.

So much more than simply an homage to ET, it will likely split your sides, jerk your tears and so beguile you with its visual panache and cultural quirkiness that you’ll hardly notice the English subtitles.
