In July 1893 Sir Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographical Society, resolved that a British National Antarctic Expedition (NAE) be undertaken.

This presentation covers in chronological sequence the period 1900-1905, from preparations for the voyage to the lecture tours and follow-ups after the expedition. Included in this presentation are many rare display items:
- Letters and postcards sent by members of the expedition including Captain Scott;
- Letters from NAE Secretary, Cyril Longhurst, to Captain Scott’s mother;
- Examples of the expedition vignette on cover;
- The unique registered parcel piece from the expedition to Sir Clements Markham.

A Marlborough Museum Sunday Series event presented by Paul Wales. Gold coin donation.

At the end of 1997 Paul retired from his position with Opus International Consultants to become a full-time stamp dealer specialising in New Zealand and Antarctic stamps and postal history. He formed a company called Classic Stamps Ltd.

"The first time I exhibited a collection was at the 1977 ‘Panpex77’ show in Christchurch where my 1970 Definitives Exhibit received a ‘silver-gold’ Award.

I have been fortunate to receive a number of medals for the following exhibits:
- The 1971 4¢ Provisional stamp of New Zealand.
- 1954 QEII Officials.
- Postal history of Campbell Island.
- 1901-04 National Antarctic Expedition.

I am on the Executive of the New Zealand Stamp Dealers Association and have served two 2-year terms as President."
