So much of what is happening in politics and society right now parallels what happens within Shakespeare’s plays – and we’re not just talking Trump. With this in mind, the ‘new takes’ on the works of the Bard will be performed by Nelson/Tasman/Golden Bay students in Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand’s University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festivals (SGCNZ UOSWSF).
In their 5- and 15- minute scenes, they re-envisage the aggressors, the megalomaniacs, the despots, the abusers, the meek and many more identifiable personalities. School groups and home-schooled students throughout the Nelson/Tasman/Golden Bay region will perform in the SGCNZ UOSWSF at Waimea College. Awards will be presented on Sunday 7 April from 2pm. Two of the most outstanding performances will have an encore at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington over Queen’s Birthday weekend.
