Sam Lewry - Artist

About Solace:
In times of increasing environmental uncertainty, the landscapes and natural objects Sam paints, are taking on another layer of meaning for her in this new exhibition at the Kapiti Arts Society Gallery. As paintings evolved for the show they became increasingly about loss of habitat, extinctions and grief, hence the name.

Creative work starts by looking past human activity for inspiration, Sam looks for small things like a Tui feather on a pathway or the shapes and curves of land, sea and sky. Most painting now include star windows with their meaning became clear recently - peace and perspective.

"Adding stars to my work brings an overwhelming sense of relief, reminding me that the Earth will heal herself, with or without us - she’s done it before and it’s ok."

Sam will be at the Gallery on Saturday 7th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 22nd September.

Born and raised on the Kapiti Coast, Sam is pleased to be returning with a new exhibition in her home town, Raumati. Sam started painting with oils in 2009 while based in Napier. In June 2017 she moved to Rangitikei, to a small lifestyle block in Marton. Her work is available at Artel Gallery in Otaki, and from her home studio.
