The Eastern Southland Gallery has combined with Invercargill Public Art Gallery to present the collaborative exhibition Southland Treasures from the Age of Rodin.

This presentation has been organized to compliment Remembering Rodin and features paintings and prints from the collections of both Galleries, all within the timeframe of Rodin’s professional career (1860 to 1917).

Curator Jim Geddes says: “There will be a focus on the emergence of Impressionism and early Modernism in Europe and New Zealand. We have brought forth mostly European works from our respective store rooms and the exhibition will feature equal numbers from each permanent collection. The two galleries really enjoy working with each other.”

Several of the paintings included in this exhibition have been selected from two institutional gifts, the Kathleen Kirby Collection to Invercargill Public Art Gallery and the Zona Crombie Bequest to the Eastern Southland Gallery. As well as a selection of portraits, the exhibition features landscapes and a number of townscapes.
