Step Back In Time - A Victorian Picnic

Gather your family, pack a picnic and join us to step back in time to celebrate 150 years of the Wellington Botanic Garden. Enjoy free Victorian-inspired activities and entertainment, just like the early days of the Botanic Garden!

Victorian Picnic is a jamboree of fun: Delight in Shakespeare, puppet shows, singing, dancing, string quartets, magical circus acts and olde-timey games. Whether it’s reflecting on the words of Katherine Mansfield, joining Sir Julius on a hunt for a Snark, meeting Friends of the Garden or patting a pony – There is something for every family member.

While you picnic under the trees, be sure to keep an eye out for Samuel, a mysterious bear and his basket full of surprises!

This event is the first of the 150th Anniversary signature themed events and focuses on the heritage and history of the Botanic Garden. Bring the whole family along to experience the garden and all that it offers; the walkways, duck pond, flowers, bird life, children’s playground and more.
