Over 58 years Johnny Green - aka 'The Egg Cup Man' - has amassed an egg-ceptional collection of more than 9000 egg cups!

His first - an Easter cup featuring yellow chicks - given to him as a boy in 1939 by his mother, was a treasured childhood possession, particularly following his mother's death two years later when he was put into an orphanage. As a soldier in the British Army from 1949 to 1955, the egg cup went with him wherever he was posted - in Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

After emigrating to Auckland in 1960, the purchase of an egg cup in a Pt. Chevalier shop very similar to his beloved original, sparked his obsession. He has since collected cups avidly, often acquiring two to three per week, the rarest being a 19th century Victorian example. His favourites include Seven Dwarf and Snow White cups released in 1937 to coincide with the Disney movie.

A selection of Johnny's eggs-trordinary collection will be on display in the Collector's Cabinet at Alberton from 13 April - 18 May 2019.

To learn more from The Egg Cup Man himself come along for an informal Talk & Tea on Sunday 28 April at 1:30pm. Johnny will bring more egg cups to show & tell and will be happy to answer questions on any antique or vintage egg cup you wish to bring along.

Both the display and talk are free with regular admission (adults $10, children and Heritage New Zealand members free). No booking required.
