The Merchant of Venice

The 4th Annual Outdoor Summer Shakespeare Season - performed on the cobbled streets of The Historic Village Tauranga. Proudly brought to you by Summer Shakespeare Tauranga and sponsored by The Historic Village Tauranga. Directed by Dylan Frewin.

Grandstand and street-level seating is provided. The seating area will be open from 7pm and all seating is by general admission. Patrons are advised to bring jackets and/or blankets for warmth, as it can get a little cool later in the evening. Street-level seats will be reserved for people with limited mobility (please arrive early and advise the Front of House staff of your requirements).

A limited amount of door sales will be available for all performances. The bar will be open at 6.30pm for ticket sales, and will be selling a range of beverages and hot food. As this is a licensed event, we are unable to permit alcohol to be brought into the bar and performance areas within The Historic Village. EFTPOS available.

If a performance needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather, ticket holders will be advised via email and a notice posted on the Facebook Page: Summer Shakespeare Tauranga. Your ticket(s) will be valid for any remaining show in the season.

The Merchant of Venice is the story of a Jewish moneylender who demands that an antisemitic Christian offer “a pound of flesh” as collateral against a loan. First performed in 1598, Shakespeare’s study of religious difference remains controversial.
