Tohutohu: 50th Anniversary of Wellington Conservation

Tohutohu, which can be translated as “to conserve, to save the life of, to guide, advise and direct."

Join us as we celebrate the the 50th Anniversary of Wellington Conservation Week / Te Wiki Tiaki Ao Turoa o Pōneke with a brand new exhibition of nature-specific artworks. The curated works are predominantly from local artists and span across all mediums and materials. Our hope is to showcase a collection of artistic responses to our unique native plants and materials, animals, Wellington landscape, nature and indigenous Atua. By presenting our visitors with different frames through which they can view our natural surroundings we hope to spark passion for conservation.

A percentage of all sales from this exhibition will be going towards our rehabilitation of native flora and fauna around the outskirts of Tapu te Ranga Marae in Island Bay, Wellington. This is following a devastating fire earlier this year, in doing so we help to support our local mana whenua whilst aiding in the conservation of our wildlife.

Nau mai haere mai to the opening night of Tohutohu from 6pm on Friday 13th of September. There will be speakers and prizes. Drinks and nibbles provided.
