The Turakina Highland Games is a full day of family fun.

It is a festival celebrating everything Scottish with Highland & National dancing, solo bag piping, solo drumming, pipe bands and traditional Scottish field events. Many Clans are represented and members are happy to help you research your celtic heritage.

There is lots to see and lots to do!

This year the New Zealand Open Solo Piping Championships will be held in conjunction with the Highland Games so the best pipers from around the country will be competing.

There is plenty to keep the kids entertained with children's games and old time sports events like the tattie and spoon or 3 legged race.

Try your hand at tossing a caber or join a tug of war team. The market stalls carry a varitiy of wares, locally produced crafts and gifts along with the specalist Scottish stalls selling all manner of items including kilts and sporrans.

Food and coffee stalls are scattered all around the field and a big marquee provides a space to relax out of the sun.

Stay on into the late afternoon and evening to taste the haggis and enjoy a bar-b-que dinner, then dance the evening away to the live music of the band Bowmore.

The Turakina Domain is just off State Highway 3 in the village of Turakina and the event is well sign posted. Free parking is available on site and camp sites are also available for $5 per night.

Children under 15 free.
