Waka Hourua Tairāwhiti Excursion

Get out on the water on the region’s own waka hourua – Tairāwhiti – for a journey that spans millennia. Journey back to a time when Māori voyagers ruled the seas and experience first-hand the ancient wayfinding vessel that survived epic sea journeys.

In a once-in-a-lifetime experience, discover how the historic waka of Te Tairāwhiti were built and how our tipuna Paoa, Kiwa, Maia, Ruawharo journeyed from Hawaiki using the moon, stars, currents and birds to navigate through the Pacific Ocean to Aotearoa.
