This Labour Weekend is unlike any other. The first public holiday since the Covid-19 Lockdown where crowd restrictions no longer apply for events like the 20/21 Season Opener on Labour Weekend.

What better way to shake off the Covid-19 blues and what for many was a pretty dismal winter, than fast and furious, clay flinging, adrenaline-pumping, exhaust bellowing dirt track action.
Recent track work has blown away the cobwebs for some drivers while others come onto the track feeling a little rusty. Regardless, all drivers are revved up and ready to give the 20/21 season an unforgettable kick start on Oct 24. Expect to see sparks fly and old rivalries renewed.

For the first time in many seasons, heavyweight stockcars are returning to the Cromwell clay to show what biff and bash is all about. A good number of the stock car drivers have signed as Central Motor Speedway contract drivers so expect this class to go from strength to strength over the season. If all goes to plan, 16 will be racing on Labour Weekend Saturday.

“I don’t want to give too much away but across all classes, we have a great line up of drivers including newbies to their class and also to the speedway. And it’s not all young guns, either. From practice sessions I recommend keeping an eye out for sprint car 22t and with a long time hard track racer 57-year-old Steve Scoles pedal to the metal,” explains promoter and sprint car ace Jason Scott
“Youth Ministocks are looking healthy as are six-shooters, saloons and productions. For Labour Weekend Saturday and at meetings throughout the season we are working on surprise crowd-pleasers that further contribute to making this Central Otago’s Fastest Family Show on Earth.

“Gates open at 3 pm for early-birds to park up in their favourite spots on the natural amphitheatre surrounding the 500-metre 'avocado-shape' track. Racing starts at 5 pm for a family and neighbour-friendly finish time of around 9pm.”
