Following the success of last year's "Messiah" Sing-in, the Cathedral will host a similar event on October 17th - this time featuring Gabriel Faure's Requiem. The composer is renowned for the beauty of his compositions. He said of this work that it is "... dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest". It is a simply beautiful work, loved by all choristers the world over. The event is open to all-comers, but the ability to read music will certainly be an advantage.

The format of this event is very simple. Singers will arrive from 1 pm and be given a score to use, unless they have brought one. From 1:30 pm they will rehearse the Requiem and - if time permits - Faure's equally lovely Cantique de Jean Racine. Afternoon tea at 3:30 pm will give time to relax and enjoy refreshments supplied by the Cathedral.

At 4 pm the Sing-in choir will perform a short concert of Faure's music to an audience of friends, family and the general public. All are welcome.

The Sing-in will be led by Anthony Tattersall, Director of Music at Waiapu Cathedral, with Michael Fletcher, Musical Director at the Wellington Catholic Cathedral. This combination led the very successful "Messiah" Sing-in last year.

Important note 1: If you want to attend the Sing-in you must register, as capacity is limited. Please contact the Cathedral Administrator by email: office@napiercathedral.org.nz or phone 06-835 8824. Office hours are 9 am - 1 pm, Tuesday to Friday.

Important note 2: Should COVID-19 regulations in force at the time of the Sing-in mean that we must limit attendee numbers to less than 50, the event will be cancelled. Those who have registered will be advised by email or phone.
