Featherston Booktown, in association with Property Brokers, is delighted to invite you to come and listen to the fabulous Annabel Langbein, in conversation with David Cohen, about her new memoir "Bella: My Life In Food".

Annabel's book will be for sale and she will sign your copy after the talk.

For the first time, Annabel Langbein, New Zealand's most popular cookbook author, writes about her remarkable life and how food has shaped it, as well as highlighting some of the recipes that have resonated most strongly with her over the years.

Bursting with tender and funny anecdotes and gorgeous recipes, "Bella" is Annabel Langbein's must-read memoir.

From her childhood fascination with cooking to a teenage flirtation as a Maoist hippie, to possum trapping and living off the land as a hunter and forager, to travelling and starting her own croissant business in Brazil, Annabel's life has always been centred on food and nature. Out of this came an obsession with creating cookbooks, introducing a generation of cooks to her simple recipes for delicious, stylish meals.

Annabel has lived a huge and varied life, and she writes vividly about her many adventures. From throughout this rich life in food, she has chosen 60 key recipes, created with her signature style and flair that make cooking easy for everyone, sharing them in this beautifully photographed book.

David Cohen is a Wellington based writer, journalist, and food critic and his longstanding interest in Jewish subjects (he contributed a chapter to "Jewish Lives In New Zealand" published by Godwit) led him to collaborate with the Auckland restaurateur Yael Shochat on "Ima Cuisine: An Israeli Mother’s Kitchen" (2016). His latest book, "Fridays with Jim: Conversations about Our Country with Jim Bolger" was published this year.

To further enhance your food experience while in Featherston for this event, there will be an exuberant Food Fair in the Anzac Hall complex, featuring over 20 Wairarapa artisanal food producers and cookbook stalls before and after Annabel's event. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to taste the delights from the Wairarapa and get your Christmas shopping done early!

While walking around Featherston, look out for and follow the chalk walk created by local school children which links the key attractions happening in Featherston over this weekend. The chalk walk starts at the Saturday morning Featherston Market, behind the pharmacy, past one of the seven book shops in town, through to the Featherston Community Centre where there will be a fantastic art exhibition and sale of original art no bigger than 200mm x 200mm. Called "Iti", this is an inaugural Art Sale organised by the Community Centre as part of their fund-raising efforts for 2020. Every piece of art will sell for $150 ($50 of each purchase will go to the Community Centre and $100 will go to the artist). The seriously good artists are either from the Wairarapa or have a connection to the Wairarapa.

The chalk walk continues to the Anzac Hall complex then heads back into the main street, taking in the other six bookshops of Featherston Booktown.
