"Two couples, one stranger, one hour..."

Fraught and unnerving... Bold and daring...
With a Linda McLean play, you can bet on two things. One is characters who are held together by the bonds of family loyalty and the memory of some past trauma. The other is a mould-breaking dramatic structure that reflects the characters' emotional fragmentation. In “Any Given Day”, which is as bold, unnerving and fraught as anything she has written, you get both.

The play is divided into two acts or 'plays'. In Play One, we meet Bill and Sadie, a couple with mental disabilities, who live in a council-owned flat in the city. They are eagerly expecting a visit from their niece Jackie, but instead their world is turned upside down when a stranger intrudes. In Play Two, we meet Jackie, who is working in a bar after having to give up her job as a nurse. When the bar's owner, Dave passes on a phone message from her son, it leads Jackie to reassess her priorities and her emotional needs, and to throw caution to the wind.

Contains adult themes and strong language.

“...A rich blend of comedy and drama gets inside its characters... The result is a play you may find hard to forget." – Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle
