Abstraction wasn’t something that suddenly came out of left field but was a totally explicable evolution that came from the revolutionary changes occurring in the world view at this time. The artists studied define these times through the images they chose to paint in response to the scientific, philosophical and political changes occurring.
The two sessions encompass the ideal of perfection as practiced by the academies and how and why these rules were broken by the Impressionists, Fauvists, Cubists, Futurists Expressionists and Dadaists, Constructivists and the metaphysics of Klee and Kandinsky.
In the course of these two sessions the focus will be on understanding the profound changes in the world view that occurred between the 1880s and the 1960s as reflected in the imagery of the artists.
