Ōtautahi visual artist Kate McLeod creates large scale paintings in oil and acrylic and makes assemblage from recycled found items. Copper and gold foil also feature heavily in her work.

The desire to mould and sculpt raw materials into something new started early. As a baby, she took the only malleable, viscous substance she could get her hands on and painted her cot. Kate has always had the desire to create and tangibly influence the physical world around her.

Following her graduation in 2005 from Canterbury University (BA, Art History and Sociology), she bought a ticket to Europe for her Grand Tour to visit as many galleries, museums and buildings as she could. Some favourites being St. Chapelle in Paris, the Waterlily House at Kew Gardens, the Seagram Mural at the Tate Modern and Pompeii.

Her career has weaved from set designer to advertising agency suit, to art teacher, to software company exec, to historic restoration project manager and trustee and back full circle to her roots of making. The last few years have been spent creating the studio and environment to support her creative career.

Free events during the show. All welcome.
