Exhibiting artists Jolene Pascoe and Isaiah Rameka will be in the gallery Saturday 1st August at 11am to talk us through the works on show in their exhibition Printer/Painter. All welcome to attend.
Working predominantly in the area of screen printing, Jolene Pascoe uses a variety of materials such as plywood, acrylic and glass to create her pieces, mixing both digital and handmade processes. Pascoe's work is an expression of recollected thought, values and memory inspired her experience of growing up in Aotearoa in the 70's and 80's. Using imagery and symbolism significant to her upbringing, her work explores value through colour, medium and metaphor.
Isaiah Rameka is a painter of Ngapuhi iwi and Ngati Wai and Ngati Hine hapu descent. His paintings express his deep concerns with the portrayal and representation of both his own and other cultures across Aotearoa. Concerns relating to discrimination, racial profiling and stereo-typing are issues that underpin his practice. Through his work he aims to question and depict a more balanced view. This body of work explores ideologies around marginalization and how diverse cultures are perceived, represented and understood within a broader contemporary context.
