Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.
This course is designed to offer young students the opportunity to learn cooking skills in a fun and safe environment for children aged 8-12 years.
Each course iteration has a different menu.
2020 dates:
- 16 - 17 April 2020
- 20 - 21 April 2020
- 6 - 7 July 2020
- 13-14 July 2020
- 28 - 29 September 2020
- 8 - 9 October 2020
The focus will be on cooking healthy meals that appeal to the young palate are associated with eating out and treats. The first dish will be enjoyed as morning tea. The students will then prepare, serve and enjoy the main dish and accompaniments for lunch.

- Kitchen and Food Safety
- Reading Recipes
- Measuring Ingredients
- Preparation and Basic Knife Skill
- Basic Food Science and Nutrition Relating to Dishes
- Serving Food
- Cleaning Up After Cooking
Places are limited to 12 children per course.
Cost of ingredients is included in the course fee. Students should bring the following (preferably labelled) equipment:
- Two tea towels
- Apron
- Vegetable paring knife
- Cook's knife
- Containers /bags for leftovers
- Knives should be sharp to avoid cuts and accidents
