Step into our workshop, meet local artists and discover how we carve pounamu by hand.

For many years, we have worked with a small team of local artists in our Rotorua workshop to craft beautiful greenstone carvings. You can now take a free guided tour of this workshop to see first-hand how we transform raw stone into taonga and learn about the fascinating history of New Zealand’s cherished stone.

Journey with us back in time to discover the original Maori uses of pounamu, learn how the stone was prized more so than gold and be captivated by powerful cultural legends which have been passed down through generations.
Experience the atmosphere of a small working studio, get up-close to the tools and machinery used to carve pounamu and get know our artists as they tell you about their passion for their craft.

As you explore our workshop, you’ll discover different types of New Zealand pounamu and witness the incredible variations in colours, textures and features as you hold each stone in your hand.

Workshop tours are free, last 15-minutes, and available 11am-4pm daily. No bookings are required.
