What does the junk you accumulate say about you? Artist Bekah Carran draws her inspiration from everyday objects - dishes filled with overlooked bits and pieces; coins, crystals, seeds and junk jewellery. She uses these as ingredients to create her mystical otherworldly sculptures.

Join Bekah for this hands-on workshop and create a self portrait sculpture using your own found objects. Pick out a collection of small junk from around your home - such as lids, beads, game pieces, broken jewellery, plastic animals, screws, crystals, shells - and bring them along to transform into your own piece of art!

About the artist

Bekah Carran (Te Ati Awa, Taranaki) collects, assembles and casts found objects. Bekah’s work balances delicacy and tension, and responds to debates on consumption and sustainability. Looking at objects that outlast us, the works resemble treasured relics transformed into something seemingly ancient, prompting us to think about the cyclical nature of time and what can be learnt from the past. Bekah lives and works on the Otago Peninsula, Ōtepoti Dunedin.

This event runs in conjunction with Bekah Carran: And we look and comb our hair, 20 June - 1 November 2020.
