Covert Block Workshop: Magic School with Joana Ponder

Part of the Covert Block Workshop Series.

The workshop: Before JK Rowling wrote the hit Harry Potter she dabbled with a few other titles. Here is one of them; Magic School. This is a long form format inspired by Harry Potter. In this course we will focus on character creation and learning the structure of the format. We will learn to use tools such as scene painting, narrative storytelling, magical realism and playing villainous characters.

The teacher: Joana Ponder is an improviser, creator and trainer. She likes to use the creator label because she likes to create as a director, performer, artist and writer. She has toured Europe performing and teaching improv and uses applied improvisation as a tool in her work empowering teams within companies and her personal coaching with individuals.

Prerequisite: Advanced (5+ years of improv experience). From this workshop, a cast will be selected to perform in a show at the Covert Theatre on 1 & 2 May (Fri & Sat).
