We at Featherston Booktown were gutted when we had to cancel this event in August due to the COVID lockdown level shifting up to level two.

But we promised you and now we are delighted to be bringing Shayne Carter and Richard Langston back for our second Words in November event and we have every appendage crossed that we will remain in lockdown level one.

2020 has been quite a year for Shayne Carter. Not only did his autobiography "Dead People I Have Known" win the coveted General Non-Fiction Ockham New Zealand Award, but just this month he has been honoured as a New Zealand Arts Laureate.

Cult pioneer of the 1980’s Dunedin Sound, Shayne Carter, will be in conversation with his friend, poet and journalist, Richard Langston, about his -winning autobiography "Dead People I’ve Known".

Richard Langston is one of New Zealand’s most experienced TV and radio journalists. He is currently a reporter, presenter, and Director on TVNZ’s popular Country Calendar. He has just released a new book of poetry published by Cuba Press called Five O’clock Shadows.

Richard comes from Dunedin and was a driving force in the city’s music scene in the 1980s. He lives in Wellington and is a proud member of the three-person South Wellington Poetry Society.
