Dunedin four-piece Die Musikband will make its first Invercargill appearance at Southland Musicians Club on Saturday 7 March, celebrating the release of debut E.P. Erste Musik.
Die Musikband bring a heap of experience to the stage. Drummer Jeff Harford (Bored Games, The Rip, The Broken Heartbreakers) is joined by guitarist John Guy Howell (Salon Kingsadore, The Broken Heartbreakers), bassist Karen McLean (Onanon) and synth player Alex Gilks (Old Tom Frost) to deliver what Harford describes as “sonic krautrock”.
“Our set shifts between structured synth-rock pieces and motoric jams,” he explains.
“We have a background in original song-based rock, stretching back to the Dunedin Sound era, but this is something new for us, tapping a vein of electronic and guitar-based instrumental music.”
The four-track E.P. was engineered by Operation Rolling Thunder’s Rob Falconer and mixed by Howell.
The first 30 punters producing an S.I.T student ID card would receive a free download code for the E.P. at the door.
“It’s nice to be able to offer a memento of the gig,” says Harford. ‘These tracks are a pretty solid representation of where the band is currently at.”
Support on the night will come from live-looping multi-instrumentalist Darcy Kerr. Born and bred in the the deep south, Darcy has learnt to play a wide range of instruments from a young age.
