The Elephant
Elephant is an original play which highlights the stage debut of acclaimed actor Joe Naufahu (Game of Thrones, The Last Saint, Head High) It also marks the co-directing debut of prominent stage/screen actor Aleni Tufuga. Rounding off the acting trio is the play’s writer and co-director Rene Naufahu.
Elephant tells the story of 3 male characters all from different layers of Kiwi modern life who seemingly are in control of their lives, even excelling at them- but each will be brought to their knees either by circumstances out of the control of their own fatal flaws. At their lowest point, the thought of Suicide enters their heads. In their darkest moment, each character will have an epiphany offering hope, forgiveness, escape, and an ultimate chance of climbing up from the depths of their despair and into the hope of a new day.
Elephant dares to take on the seemingly overwhelming call of Suicide by celebrating all things Life— song, dance, humour, heart make and Heartache, Rugby scrums, and Tongan lullaby’s and Maori hakas.
