Learn to use Vitreous Enamels - powdered glass - and fuse these to copper and silver.

Enamels allow you to create colourful pieces of jewellery, the types of colours and style of design or pattern are up to you!

Torch firing enamels is a fun and organic technique that is a great way for people to start learning how to enamel. It is easy to do in the home workshop, and as it can be quite experimental, the process is a good one to practice at home once you have the basics down.

Beginners with little or no jewellery making experience will be given set projects using pre-cut shapes of copper and sterling silver foil which can easily have enamel applied, fired, and then be simply connected to earring or necklace fittings.

Those with jewellery making experience may be able to choose slightly more advanced projects such as a simple round or oval enamelled form (that you would enamel) to be set in a silver bezel for a ring or pendant. Another option might be a riveted piece, where the enamelled part are connected to a brooch via silver or copper rivets. You can use the pre-cut copper or silver forms we provide to save time, and then adapt your design around those. You will need to work within the time constraints of the workshop if you wish to complete those more complex projects within the weekend.

Those with enamelling and jewellery experience, who also have home workshops may wish to start a project that they will finish later at home, and use your tutor’s experience in enamelling and fabricating connections to help you design and begin your piece.

30 min lunch

Cost $360 including basic materials. Extra materials and chains for pendants will be available for purchase.
