As part of the wellness programme of events surrounding the Museum of Broken Relationship exhibition, Richie Hardcore will present a moving talk about wellness and connection.

Mental health is an ongoing battle for many New Zealanders and affects every area of a person’s life. Mental health public speaker Richie Hardcore is a well-known media personality, passionate about creating conversations around this traditionally (and, for many people, still) taboo subject.

Richie has won national and international Muay Thai and kickboxing titles, and earnestly believes that fighting saved him – from depression, potential drug and alcohol abuse, and ironically, from seeing violence as a solution.

He is a Ministry of Social Development ‘It’s Not OK’ Champion, working to educate and end violence against women. He is an educator and public speaker, focusing on exploring mental health, well-being, masculinity, and ending rape culture, sexual, and family violence. He often appears on TV and radio panels and shows discussing social issues.

Richie regularly speaks with schools, workplaces, and groups. He is passionate about creating conversations around mental health. He is a big advocate for speaking up and asking for help. He believes that you don’t have to fit into a dichotomy.

In this talk, Richie will be speaking about dropping the stigma of mental health and the power of vulnerability and human connection in a social era. Speaking openly about his past relationships and divorce, as well as how to navigate commitment, emotions and relationships as an adult.
