At chalkboard or in laboratories, women may be the minority throughout history but have contributed their fair share to innovation and invention. In this course we will consider a dozen European women and their contributions to the development of science and society - their background, their actions and their contributions - small or large. We will consider from a wide range of occupations across the scientific fields, particularly those who helped reshape our views of ourselves and the world in general.

Michael Couch has been teaching community education courses for over a decade. With an academic background in Philosophy, Classical Studies, Education and History, he recently completed his PhD in the History of Philosophy of Education in New Zealand. He enjoys learning new topics, and incorporates passion and wry humour into all the courses he teaches.
