In this fun and relaxed workshop you will learn how to create a kono using the konae (two cornered kete) method, out of harakeke (flax). Tutor Lee Olsen will guide you through the process of making a kete (bag) step-by-step, using the traditional harakeke grown locally.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, with all materials included.

Pre-payment is required to secure your place on this popular course. Your place can be reserved for 48 hours while you organise confirmation with payment. Book early to avoid disappointment!

To Book: Contact bookings@thecan.co.nz or call 06 835 9448

What to bring: Some coins for parking and your lunch!

Tutor: Lee Olsen: Ngāti Kahungunu, Tūhoe

Lee Olsen lives in Hawke’s Bay and have been weaving with harakeke for over 15 years. It was seeing the beautiful kete that the Nannies treasured that first inspired her to weave. Kete are still her favourite, and there are so many different variations. You can use different whakairo (patterns), different widths of whenu, different colours, different adornments and different fibres. So much room for creativity!

Creative Arts Napier reserves the right to cancel this workshop a week prior to the start date in the rare event of insufficient bookings.
