On Sunday 8 March, which is International Women’s Day, there will be two Heroines & Housewives tours at Karori Cemetery. The tour starts with Aunt Daisy, and includes a memorial for a woman murdered in 1916 (her assailant then committed suicide and is buried elsewhere in the cemetery), the first woman registered as a dentist in NZ, the proprietress of the Te Aro Saltwater Baths, the wife of a man sentenced to be hanged but who never was, a suffragette or two, and a number of other equally interesting women whose final resting place is Karori Cemetery.

The usual conditions apply – cost is $10 per person, paid in cash at the beginning of the tour (to support the Friends). Girl children under 12 are free. The tours start at the Main Chapel, Rosehaugh Avenue, where there is lots of free parking.

Good dogs, on leads, are welcome. If you would like to go on one of the tours, please contact me on friendskaroricemetery@gmail.com, or call me on 0210653778 and I’ll add you to the booking list.
