It really does seem the sensible thing to do. With Waitangi Day on Thursday, February 6, give yourself a four day weekend by taking Friday off. This, of course, means you’ll be able to make the most of two action-packed back-to-back meetings at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway.

Friday, February 7, is in itself a double header with around 16 methanol-gulping, flame belching Super Saloons competing in round 4 of the 2019 – 20 Mag & Turbo Super Cup. Then there are some 60 production saloons from all over the country competing on Day 1 of the Friend Forestry 2019-20 New Zealand Production Saloon Championship.

Saturday, February 8, the action continues with the productions champs final and lots of fast, exciting racing by other classes. Gates for trackside parking open both days at 4pm with racing starting at 6pm.

For anyone put off by the weather forecast on Saturday, January 11, and like the predicted rain, stayed away from the Ray Stewart 70th Birthday Super Saloon 70 Lapper, Friday is their chance to see scorching the Cromwell clay 70 lap winner Ian Burson (3NZ), Terry Soper(8d) who was one of only four to pass Ray, and of course Ray (34t) himself as well as ace super saloon drivers that include Trevor Elliott(27c), Peter Dickson(11t) and many more.

After three rounds the Mag & Turbo Super Cup leader board 1st to 5th... 1st Trevor Elliott 27c, 2nd Peter Dickson 11t, 3rd Ian Burson NZ3, 4th Terry Soper 8d, 5th Ray Stewart 34t.

With their highly sophisticated custom-built space frame chassis and full race V8 motors putting out between 700 and 800 horsepower, super saloons can cost north of $100,000. Well south of that, around $2000 can buy a competitive production saloon which is basically a striped out, roll-caged pretty much end of the road Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Holden or Ford.
