The Red Dog Acoustic Duo, formed by Dave Murphy and Dougal Speir, is an acoustic spin-off from the Red Dog Saloon Band. What people who know about blues music have to say about Dave and Dougal:
"Dave Murphy has to be NZ's finest acoustic blues guitarist, with an earthy voice and a real feel for pre-war styles.” – Mike Garner, Blues News
"Dave is an icon in the New Zealand music scene." – music critic Nick Bollinger
“Dougal Speir playing so fine and righteous blues guitar – it knocks me around for about 3 weeks every time I see him play. Count that man’s fingers!” – Karen Clark, Raumati
Support acts will be... Barry and The Crumpets (Newgrass),
Barry and the Crumpets are a foot-stomping, barn-romping country dance extravagance. Playing old-time classics, breakneck bluegrass and swampy blues. All played toe-tapping fast and knee-slapping rowdy.
The band have been honing their particular flavour of upbeat, old-fashioned mountain music and three-part harmonies with a smattering of Celtic roots for about eighteen months.
John And Susan Sutherland (Scottish Folk/Americana)
John Sutherland is known throughout the New Zealand Folk Scene from Auckland to Dunedin with a history going back 50 years. Susan has always loved to sing and has beautiful voice that will draw you in.
They both have a love for the Americana genre but also include songs from John's homeland of Scotland, accompanied by his Big Bill Broonzy influenced guitar style.
Tim Thorpe Trio (Blues/Folk/Pop).
