Flying kites is a way to celebrate this special time of year. Kites of all shapes and sizes will take to the skies, symbolically connecting the land and sky, and sending messages to the universe. Although there is no large gathering this year due to event restrictions, we're encouraging all Aucklanders to head to their local park, maunga or backyard on Sun 28 June and fly a kite.
Enjoy some time with friends and whānau and let's see if we can fill the skies of Tāmaki Makaurau with thousands of kites. Share your Matariki kite photos using the #MatarikiFestival hashtag – we'll be resharing the best shots on Instagram (www.instagram.com/matarikifestivalakl/).
