Meet the Godwits

The Ahuriri Estuary Protection Society, Birds NZ and DOC are hosting this 'Meet the Godwits" event. There will be a short talk about godwits (by a renowned ornithologist) at the grass area near the carpark opposite the Westshore Beach Inn. There will then be a walk down to the Estuary to view the godwits - several scopes will be available for viewing. Please bring binoculars if possible. Children accompanied by an adult, please. Sorry but no dogs. Also bring a sunhat, a water bottle and wear suitable shoes and clothes.

Each September about 200 godwits fly non stop from Alaska to spend our summer right here at the Ahuriri Estuary - do come to see and to find out about these amazing long haul flyers!
