A group show, brought to you by The Lost Space Project. This show explores the engaging and expressive inventiveness of tattoo artistry. Tattoos may be interpreted as personal visual expression alongside a purely aesthetic adornment.
The connection between identity, spirituality, symbolism and cultural tradition have been present throughout history in the form of body decoration. The Lost Space Project aims to enliven spaces that are in states of transition, connecting these spaces to the local community through art. We are an artist’s collective exploring spaces and ideas for pop-up exhibitions.
The Lost Space Project is a conversation about place, change, transience and the transformative power of creativity. The collective has experience revitalising spaces for art. From 2013 to 2015 two of the members developed exhibitions and programmes at Circle Gallery in Station Square, Newmarket. This included creative classes, studio hire and collaborating with emerging artists to develop their shows.
In May of 2018 the collective also successfully hosted a one-night, private art event; ‘Façade’ held in the thoroughfare area behind Cassette Nine, 27 High Street. Transforming an underappreciated, underutilised space with entertainment, art and refreshments. More recently we hosted an evening at Mount Gabriel Christmas Tree farm in Māngere. This was called ‘Solstice’ and themed around the mid-winter season and Matariki.
