Blue Oyster Art Project Space is pleased to present DUIRVIAS, a showing of new works by Laura Duffy and Owen Connors.

DUIRVIAS contains works derived from transmissions received in the presence of two memorials in Tāmaki Makaurau dedicated to those who passed of AIDS related illnesses: Memorial Tree and The Circle of Friends.

Owen Connors is an artist and writer based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Recent exhibitions include SISSYMANCY!, PlayStation Gallery, Pōneke, 2019; Fool for a World That Will End (with Daniel John Corbett Sanders), Mother? Gallery, Tāmaki Makaurau, 2019 and Crudo of Perilous Might, MEANWHILE, Pōneke, 2018.

Laura Duffy is a video artist and curator born in Tairawhiti based in Pōneke. Recent exhibitions include; Thinking about thinking about the future, Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Art Gallery, 2020. Club 290, PlayStation, Pōneke, 2020. Laura Duffy has contributed to projects at; MEANWHILE, Courtenay Place Lightboxes, Enjoy Contemporary Art Space, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, RM Gallery, The Engine Room.

Frances Duncan (fka Claire Duncan) is an interdisciplinary artist from Aotearoa

The Memorial Tree, located on Constitution Hill, is an Pedunculate Oak planted in May 1991 by Auckland Community AIDS Services. It is accompanied by a plaque that reads ‘REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE DIED OF AIDS’.

The Circle of Friends, located in Western Springs Park, is a stone memorial engraved with the names of some of those who have died from AIDS in New Zealand along with others who are living with HIV/AIDS, as well as partners, families and friends of those infected, regardless of whether they have the virus or not.
