This event is part of the public programme for the exhibition Modern Living: Design in 1950s New Zealand.

Leading architects, researchers, and advocates discuss the role of housing in creating a fairer, happier, healthier society. How do both design and policy contribute to housing quality? What is working and what urgent issues still need to be addressed?

Speakers:
Philippa Howden-Chapman, co-director of He Kāinga Oranga | Housing and Health Research Programme and director of the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities.

Rau Hoskins (Ngā Puhi), founding director of designTRIBE architects and chairperson of Te Matapihi, the national support and advocacy body for Māori housing.

Ben Schrader, public historian and author of We Call it Home: A History of State Housing in New Zealand and The Big Smoke: New Zealand Cities.
