a Thursday Noise Situation presents, at the darkroom from 8pm October 8th, the return of Stanier Black-Five to Christchurch as well as debut performances from Evil Children and William Ayrey and, after his triumphant first performance in June, the return of d.a.l.i.

Stanier Black-Five – aka Jo Burzynska is – is a multisensory artist, whose installations and performances are regularly created at the intersection of the senses. In this first NZ performance since her return from Sydney, she will be creating a live visceral soundscape, Anosmic Resonance. Using isochronic tones and Schumann resonance along with field recordings, it aims to both soothe and stimulate pandemic affected minds.

Jo’s music has been released internationally on labels such as Belgium’s Entr’acte and the UK’s Touch Radio and Rail Cables. She has played alongside artists such as Chris Watson, Merzbow and Daniel Menche and presented her work at festivals such as the London Musicians Collective’s Festival of Experimental Music. Her sound art and installations have been exhibited at galleries including the National Museum of Contemporary Art, MAXXI in Rome; Studio Sienko in London; May Space in Sydney; and The Auricle in Christchurch.

Evil Children will bathe your ears by sculpting hazy and swirling dream pop soundscapes. Featuring Raquel of Mad Frank and Tony of black/black/blue, this will be their debut live show

d.a.l.i. or Dead and Loving It is primarily black metal in aesthetic, yet has never feared to compose songs of entirely other genres. The music is contemplative and sorrowful. d.a.l.i. also can be blazing as bright as it is cold. Themes are generally depressive and morose yet lend a hand to optimism. Bands such as Cure, Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins are heavy inspirations that create an eclectic soundscape that hopefully provides images and deep thought.

William Ayrey; the noise of Les Rallizes Denudes, the additude of Big Black and the technical know how of The Shaggs.
