Steelers: The World's First Gay Rugby Club

Being gay and playing sport doesn't usually mix - especially one as tough as rugby, right? Wrong. 'Steelers' is uplifting and life-affirming yet heartwarming story about the world's first gay rugby club that started in London in 1995. Told through the eyes of an Australian reporter who moved to the UK to escape depression, we learn that sometimes happiness can be found where you least expect.

In this documentary, narrated by Eammon Ashton-Atkinson, we follow 3 characters as the club competes against 60 other gay teams in the Bingham Cup - the World Cup of gay rugby. We meet the gay female coach from Wales coach fighting misogyny, the Birmingham rugby fanatic battling his own demons after recently coming out, and the drag queen who teaches us to live as the person we truly are.

Through each character, the film shows how this gay and inclusive rugby community has helped people overcome their struggles in ways they never would have imagined.
