Join Dunedin artist Jay Hutchinson for an afternoon of contemporary embroidery. All materials are provided, no experience is necessary.

This workshop is in conjunction with the museum’s current temporary exhibition, Brought to Light: Collections Processing 2018-2019. Visit the exhibition to see historical examples of embroidery including teaching samples created by Miss Edna Joyce, a teacher at the University of Otago in the 1960s.

Jay Hutchinson is a New Zealand artist based in Dunedin who works with textiles with a focus on hand-embroidery. Originally from a street art background, a project for his MFA titled ‘Concrete to Textile’ at the Blue Oyster Art Project Space, 2006, involved Hutchinson recreating a series of graffitied walls into elaborate hand-embroidered panels. Hutchinson completed his MFA in 2008 and has since exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand as well as Australia and China.
