Having studied and performed together in various settings, these three musicians charter new territory in a drumless trio format. Together they will play their favourite jazz tunes arranged for this setting as well as a few originals.
Bios:
Calum Dundas began his jazz studies at NZSM in Wellington and has since moved to Auckland to complete his Honors degree at the University of Auckland. Calum debut The Calum Dudas Quartet at CJC, 1st September 2019 and was excited to present a range of original compositions he has written in his last two years of study along with arrangements and compositions from his favourite artists.
Drawing influences from the greats such as John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, The Jazz Messengers and modern artists such as Jonathan Kreisberg, Calum’s aim is to keep the tradition ever-present as he presents his work in a quartet setting.
Wil Goodinson, aptly described as “Auckland’s hottest type 1 diabetic bass player”, Wil is a recent graduate of the University of Auckland Jazz School, where he studied with Roger Manins, Kevin Haines and Oli Holland. Showing appreciation to the lower register instruments, this unorthodox instrumentation features both jazz and classical musicians and Wil is excited to present his compositions to a local audience.
