That Click
Director: Luca Severi | 90 min | 2019 | United States

“The best art of all comes from people who are willing to be present, willing to give their best – and aren't full of shit."– Sharon Stone

Now in his late 80s, photographer Douglas Kirkland's Hollywood career has been long and illustrious. And, in a town not known for the longevity of relationships, Douglas' life and working partnership with wife Françoise, has also endured.

Early in his working life, he captured iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, after suggesting to her that she seduce the camera rather than the photographer.

Although Douglas' Hollywood vast portfolio – some of which is exhibited at the Association of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – contains a good number of leading men, it's the portraits of actresses for which he's best-known. From Monroe, through 'Life' cover shots of Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor to more recent sirens, Douglas' images have been an integral part of movie promotion for over half a century.

Director Luca Severi's film benefits from some of that falling stardust.

Kirkland's good relations with his subjects delivers a considerable amount of Hollywood acting power to 'That Click'. Among those making appearances in Luca's film are Elle Fanning, Andy Garcia, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, Michelle Williams, director Baz Luhrmann, as well as legendary musician and producer Herbie Hancock.

Many years after that first click became the soundtrack of his life, Douglas has completed over 2,000 assignments, 600 celebrity photo-shoots, and 150 feature films, including 'The Sound of Music, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa' and James Cameron's 'Titanic'.

Previous festival selections include:
Festa Del Cinema di Roma
