The Big Octogenarian Birthday Bash

Mike Walker and Dave MacRae two of NZ’s great piano players have known each other since they were 18 and will celebrate their 80th birthdays one day apart on April 1st and 2nd. This never to be repeated event will be celebrated on March 31st at The AJ+B Club.

They will be joined by old stablemates drummer Frank Gibson and Bassist Bruce Lynch, Saxophone maestro Brian Smith and Trombone elder statesman Merv Thomas. In addition Joy Yates, Suzanne Lynch and Jade MacRae who is just back from the USA will add their superb vocal talent. The combinations will be many and varied.

The program will include some historical recreations from the days of the Montmartre and 6 oclock closing (if you can remember back that far) and contemporary offerings and surprises will definitely be forthcoming.

Mike Walker has been the foundation stone of jazz piano in NZ for many years now and his international experience is always in evidence in his consummate performances.

Dave MacRae has travelled the world for some time now including time with The Buddy Rich Band, Jon Hendricks, Chet Baker and dozens of other artists. He has recently returned from The Havana Jazz Festival In Cuba.
