During September, Petone's Artspace Gallery is proud to welcome Alec Macdonald for his first solo exhibition in the seaside gallery. Alec paints in a superrealist style and most of his paintings depict the wonderful landscape close to his heart, the Pauatahanui Inlet and Plimmerton area. Alec migrated from the UK to NZ just over 40 years ago and he instantly fell in love with the new scenery near his new home. He lives near the inlet and has been very inspired by the amazing and wonderful scenery surrounding him, he was inspired by the loneliness and tranquility of the landscape, the wonderful rolling hills surrounding the inlet with the beautiful play of light on them at different times of the day. Alec also enjoys painting the surrounding boat sheds charateristic of the area and water at different tides.

Alec also finds inspiration in both dreams and his sense of the ridiculous and his exhibition will also include a wonderful series of paintings he has called the “animal paintings” This series began with a painting for his first great-niece, (the Circumnavigators) and has since expanded in further flights of fancy for viewers to enjoy.
